Funnel cakes are a little piece of childhood filled with the nostalgia of attending local carnivals and the Texas state fair. What’s a person to do when it’s not time for either of those events but you’re craving that sweet treat? Kinsley’s Ice Cream and Funnel Cake Parlor is at your service. This charming parlor was named after the owner’s daughter who was diagnosed with down syndrome. While teaching important skills to Kinsley the parlor also serves up joy to the community one funnel cake at a time. I should add that the customer service was top notch. I was greeted upon entering, everyone was friendly and pleasant, items on the menu were fully explained without me asking and I was even offered samples to help me make up my mind.
I tried the pecan praline funnel cake. It has a nice crisp outside and a soft inside combined with caramel, nuts and topped with a scoop of your choice of ice cream. They have a variety of funnel cake options which include flavors like peach cobbler and birthday cake. I could totally see this place being great for a family outing or even a date.
I decided to also try some of the wings and I’m glad that I did. The order of 6 wings comes with curly fries, carrots, celery and your choice of a drink. They have different wing flavors to choose from and I went with the Golden BBQ. It tastes like a sweet and tangy mustard bbq sauce. I finished my wings and wished I had ordered more they were so good. The curly fries were good as well, but I’m partial to curly fries.
If there is one thing you should know about Texans, it’s that we love all things Texas. When I was told that the chicken and waffles comes with a Texas shaped waffle I had to get it too. Who doesn’t love a Texas shaped waffle? Also, the chicken strips are not those frozen out of a bag and dropped in grease strips that you’ll get at other places. These are homemade battered chicken strips for an extra bit of love.
